Archive for the ‘Recycling’ Category

Solicitor Dawn Humphries is one of the kind members of Lanyon Bowdler, who is growing and nurturing plans for our Shrewsbury Flower Show garden.

We have asked all those involved with the project, to keep a ‘garden journal’, these journals will help create the interesting podcasts which will be available for visitors to listen to.

Dawn was lucky enough to get to Chelsea Flower Show, and she has shared these thoughts with us:

“I’m just back from Chelsea Flower Show which provided all the big drama, fashion and style of gardening at it’s best (the sunshine and Pimms helped to make it a truly wonderful experience).”

“I was most inspired to see the end results after such a lot of hard work and effort.  I particularly wanted to see the Stephen Hawking and Motor Neurone Disease garden which like the Lanyon Bowdler and Headway Garden is very symbolic and representative…(call me biased, but I think ours will be much more beautiful!)”

“There is a big emphasis this year on being eco friendly, recycling and reducing carbon miles (I may have to deliver all my plants from home to office to showground by bike).  But that aside, we tick all the boxes for recycling and relocating the garden elements back to Headway Shropshire for their use after the show.  Roll on Shrewsbury, must now go and talk to my seedlings…Alan Titchmarsh does it, and that’s good enough for me!!!”

A garden for living - vegetables, fruit bushes and useful composters

Dawn’s comments above are interesting, recycling is very much in the news – as are allotments.  Much of our garden will be made up from recycled products – including engine parts from old Land Rovers!  Our garden is geared towards ‘living’ – practical raised beds will allow comfortable gardening for able and less able individuals.  There will be salad gardens, herbs, fruit bushes and trees – companion plants will add colour to the beds – and the presence of lavender will create a lovely fragrance.

With only 78 days to go to the Shrewsbury Flower Show – I shudder slightly with panic!  That said, it is going to be terrific to see the finished product.
